When I close my eyes

I think of summer

Of tickling feet with straws of grass

Of sipping lemon juice in the backyard

Of driving the car down the road barefooted

Just for fun

Of cooling whispers from the depths of your throat

Into the nooks and crannies of my mind

Of finding everything in a daisy

And letting go as the dandelion makes its own way

To nothing

Of strawberries that come with a side of wishing

And wanting for this to never end

Of linen fabric flailing in the hot breeze

Getting as faded as our memories

The extravagant feeling of an ice cube melting on my tongue

Of summery delights that don’t compare

And everything gone wrong

When I close my eyes

I think of summer

And how four walls never felt like home

As your two arms
